Managed Backups Are Now Live!

Starting today, you can now add backups to your VPS order, which will copy the root disk of your VPS over to our dedicated datacenter in a cave daily. Yes, a cave.

We keep 7 daily backups and 1 weekly backup for a total retention period of 14 days spread across 8 checkpoints. This should give you plenty of rollback points in case something goes wrong.

Pricing follows your VPS disk size at just $1/mo/tier. This means a 4K VPS is $4/mo. For another example, if you have a 1K VPS with a 400GB disk via an a la carte add-on, your backups price is $8/mo, matching the 8K tier’s disk size and therefore price.

Since our big fancy dashboard is still in the works, restores are via manual request. Please email us which machine and what day you want to roll back to. We will do our best to respond same-day to get you back up and running. We can also just mount your restore disk alongside your original disk if you just want to fish a file out or something.

And in keeping with our theme of being nice: All existing customers get backups free of charge! There is nothing you need to do, your data is already there!

Side Note: While we CAN offer backups for your block storage volumes for either your VPS or your Colo service, please note that the effective price is 2x the price of the block storage itself (at $1/50GB/mo, matching the VPS SSD disk pricing). This is because A. we have to pay for extra dedicated fiber lines to this DC. B. We’re keeping 8 snapshots vs. just 1 copy of data, and C. dude, it’s in a cave. That ain’t exactly cheap. If you still want backups for block storage despite this, please email us at the usual spots from the email on your account and we’ll work something out.
